We all remember from our childhood the story of through the looking glass, a story filled with adventure and mystery.
We have created our version of this childhood classic in a double sided miniature, with the colourful characters.
The outside of the cabinet is finished in a gold on white paint along with gold decorative trim and gold plated feet, there are murals on cavass all sides of the cabinet with the scene of a magical valley of mushrooms and the top mural depicts the wonderland castle and the surrounding wonderland.
Here we have a handmade white rabbit that serves the queen of hearts, an obligation to which he is always late for, the colourful character is handmade and painted and dressed in his formal palace attire in blue and white with red hearts finished with a delicate gold trim.
The first side of our cabinet is the family library which is done with a lincrusta paper and Georgian coving finished with 24ct gold leaf detail and a gold plated chandelier. The interior of the room is finished with ornate panelling and top with a gold leafed dado rail and a sparkling pink wallpaper to add that little bit of magic to the room. Also the walls are lit with gold plated wall lights and are adorned by a gold plated clock. Carved walnut furniture by JBM Miniatures has been used to furnish the library along with a gold leafed mirror which is double sided looking into the world of wonderland.
The childhood fantasy comes to life in this section room of the cabinet, the well known characters can be found in here with the caterpillar and the adorable cheshire cat which are hand made by Michael Robbins.
The library side of the cabinet seen here in its entirety showing all of the lavish detail. To the right of the room there is a delightful table with lilac silk curtains behind. The lamp sitting on the table is hand crafted by Ray Storey and further enhance with 24 ct gold leaf by Sean. A miniature book of Alice through the looking glass lays on the table top ready for reading. The room has a specially commissioned classic Sue Cook fireplace with a solid marble hearth.
In front of the fireplace there is a beautiful reproduction Georgian rug. Upon the rug you can see a trail of playing cards which will lead Alice to wonderland.
Who can forget the talking caterpillar from the story sitting upon his mushroom smoking. The detail is all hand sculped in clay and painted by Michael Robbins who’s works we have used many times before in other cabinets..
Here we can see two of our character’s, this time its Alice and the white rabbit, Alice is made of porcelain handmade by Debbie Dixon-Paver and dressed in the classic Alice dress. The white rabbit is a special commission and created by an Italian female artisan, he is dressed in his royal court attire.
The outside of the cabinet which is decorated with mural’s of wonderland, these are printed onto canvases then hand painted with glitter detail along with gold trim. The cabinet sits on four ornate gold plated feet.
