Victorian hand painted sewing table
Victorian Antique Japanned Work Table Sewing Box. During this period large and ornate sewing boxes were fashionable. Needlework was a popular pastime for dowager ladies and sometimes even the gentlemen. This needlework box highly decorated in the chinoiserie style is supported on a tall trestle table with Lyre shaped ends. The sides are cut in balancing cyma curves. It sits on 2 scroll cut cyma-curved bracket feet. The interior of the box has been divided into compartments of various sizes some with small lids that are fitted with a little brass knob so that they lift of to gain access to the needlework notions that are stored in the compartment. The lid of the box has been decorated with beautiful hand painted chinoiserie designs -

Victorian Table + Birdcage
The Victorian bird cage is decorated with spires on the top of the 4 cages that surround the top section of the main cage and on the top of the main cage. A small bird sits on a swing in the upper section of the main cage.There is a door at the front of the cage and a bottom tray that can be removed.The English 1850 table top has a moulded edge and the apron is serpentine shaped and fits between the legs of the table. The tops of the tapered legs are hand carved to match the carving on the apron. The table legs are fluted and joined diagonally by a spreader bar. The centre of the serpentine-shaped spreader bars is decorated with a small spire which matches the spires on the bird cage making this stand-alone table also suitable to be used as a stand for the bird cage if required.Birdcage Dimensions: 4”H x 2”W x 2”DTable Dimensions: 2 1/4”H x 2 3/16”W x 2 3/16”D -

1840-1880. The sewing box. The Lye shaped ends are connected with a shaped bottom shelf that stands on on bun feet. The sewing box is designed to be used as an end table. The Oval shaped table top lifts to display the interior which is divided into sections. Each section is covered with a small shaped lid which can be lifted off using a centrally placed bass knob. -
