Hand painted oriental sewing table
Victorian Antique Japanned Work Table Sewing Box. During this period large and ornate sewing boxes were fashionable. Needlework was a popular pastime for dowager ladies and sometimes even the gentlemen. This needlework box highly decorated in the chinoiserie style is supported on a tall trestle table with Lyre shaped ends. The sides are cut in balancing cyma curves. It sits on 2 scroll cut cyma-curved bracket feet. The interior of the box has been divided into compartments of various sizes some with small lids that are fitted with a little brass knob so that they lift of to gain access to the needlework notions that are stored in the compartment. The lid of the box has been decorated with beautiful hand painted chinoiserie designs mostly they are in rounded sarcophagus shapes with very fine gold decoration depicting oriental scenes -

Jacobean 1620 era Walnut Chair
Following the style of a Farthingale chair, which had no arms, a low solid padded back; high-raised seat. The chair can be used as a dining chair or as a desk chair with the Davenport desk. Turned baluster legs at the front and plain ones at the rear. The front ones have been fluted which in that period would be called turning because of the method used to achieve the fluting. -

Ladies dressing table in walnut with hand painted floral decoration
A formar leather top table with a single drawer in the front. The dresser has a superstructure fitted on top which consists of a pigeon hole opening and 2 small opening drawers on either side. On the shelf above the drawers is a centrally placed cupboard with one interior shelf enclosed by a glass door and a hand painted floral design on the cornice. The back of the superstructure is curved down to form a back to the desk. The legs are spade toe Marlborough type Circa 1900.the drawer fronts and sides are hand painted with floral motifs. The dresser is finished in walnut. -

The base or lower section of the breakfront bookcase has 4 panelled doors with raised designs to match the design of the dentil glazing bars 1760-1780 style. on the doors in the top section. The bottom cupboards have one shelf. The top of the cabinet has 4 doors decorated with the dentil glazing bars and three glass shelves in each section. The cornice is Chippendale style and the plinth is supported on small spade feet. The indented design around the cornice is reproduced around the plinth. -
